It’s Recorder Time!!!

2009-2010 School Year

 Dear PPE Parent,

                Hi from the Music Room… It’s Recorder Time!!! Beginning immediately, your child will be learning to play the recorder during music class. This fun flute-like instrument has existed since Renaissance times, & is a great pre-band instrument because it shares the same fingerings as many woodwind instruments.  Playing recorder is a great way to learn the basics of music. We will learn songs & fingerings during regular music classes, but practicing at home is essential to help your child make speedy progress.

                PPE’s Recorder Requirement. Every student in grades 3-5 needs a recorder for every music class, starting immediately. Having a recorder is required & is a significant part of your child’s daily music grade. Recorders may be EITHER purchased OR borrowed from school at no cost. A limited number of free scholarship instruments are also available, which become your child’s permanent property. Study books are also available for purchase only through the school. To prevent the spread of illness, sibling sharing is strongly discouraged. Check with your child’s classroom teacher to learn which days your child has music. It’s smart to keep the recorder in your child’s backpack at all times except during use to prevent your child’s daily music grade from being lowered due to  class unpreparedness.

                EVERY CHILD MUST RETURN THIS LETTER SIGNED to Mrs. Greggs, Music Teacher, by Wed. Nov. 18, FOR A MUSIC GRADE. If purchasing a recorder, please include cash only with this letter in a sealed envelope. If borrowing or requesting a scholarship instrument, only a signature is required. Recorders make great gifts, and since they are used in grades 3, 4, and 5, they are a GREAT investment! If you already have a recorder, GREAT! You don’t need to buy another one, but you still need to return the form below.
